This is an interview that I believe helps a lot with the question of evil in this world. Its an NPR Interview after the tsunami that hit Asia a few years ago. Pretty applicable to the Haiti crisis today.

Pride Can Turn you into a Hippie

Pride will take you a lot of places but I never thought it would turn a king into a grass eating hippie like King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4. Even after God tells Nebuchadnezzar in his dream and through Daniel to repent, he boasts about "his mighty power" (Dan 4:30).

You know, we are created to be mighty and powerful. God gives us dominion (Gen 1:28). He gives us strength (Ps 18:39, Ps 28:8). But, we aren't to be found admiring the beauty of what we have done. Rather, we are to be prideful and boastful of what God has done through us(2 Cor 12:9-10)!

God does teach Nebuchadnezzar that: the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will (Dan 4:32). He probably learned it a little better then me since I never was much of a hippie.

Jesus needs Sanctification

In John 17:19, Jesus says that he sanctifies himself. Isn't he already holy? Why would he need to sanctify himself?

Is Jesus Driving People Out of the Kingdom?

When Jesus witnesses in John 6, it seems like he is dividing the crops more than just harvesting everything. He takes more of a combine approach, throwing the trash back in the field. He's separating the quick and the dead.

Also, Jesus doesn't make excuses for God or try to persuade, like I feel the urge to do. He just lays out the facts and gives people the freedom to decide for themselves. Its actually a lot more mature approach than I take.

It seems more like Jesus is trying to drive people away than bring them in. What do you think?

Deuteronomy: A work in Progress?

I was wondering today if this book was compiled from different problems Moses encountered or if Moses went up on the mountain and came back with the law. It seems like there were problems encountered first and it was a work in progress because the laws start out with "If a man..." or something similar. Of course this theory could be totally wrong. What do you think?

He Chose Us First

I love that God chose me first also (1 John 4:10). And not because I am great for I am worthless (Rom 3:12) but because the LORD loves me. This is repeated in 9:4-6 and 10:15. I love the story.

Not only does he choose the weak but he calls them into strength (Rom 4:17) for the world to see how great our God is. Yahweh don't play!

The Meaning of Life?

As he continues on, he makes it clear that pleasing men gets nothing...

Then, he enters a dang "tunnel of Chaos" with Peter!!! You got to love those tunnels!
